Lorem Ipsum for Placeholder Images
January 30, 2010 by Brandon L. Barnett
I just stumbled upon this handy little website where you can automate creating placeholder images for layouts and mock-ups. Perfect for prototyping layouts and placing examples for page real estate.
If you aren’t familiar with ‘Lorem Ipsum’ it’s simply ancient latin text that is used as ‘filler’ for layouts and templates. Using Lorem Ipsum simply allows you to have placement paragraph text so you can visualize your design with content added.
You can simply pass the image dimensions along with the URI request. He’s even nice enough to allow hot linking to his server in your prototypes..
Going to http://www.dummyimage.com/300×250 gives us:
http://www.dummyimage.com/428×60 generates:
…and so on.
Definitely a handy resource for those of us doing mock-ups all the time. Time saved prototyping is money made deploying.
