Adventures in NYC – Affiliate Summit East
August 13, 2009 by Brandon L. Barnett
Although this wasn’t my first time visiting New York or my first Affiliate Summit, I must say this was the biggest adventure I’ve had yet in the big apple and the highlight of my affiliate marketing ‘career’!
At previous conferences I always felt like the new kid in school, not really knowing anyone and still a relative new comer to the industry. At this point I’ve paid my dues, I know the ins and outs and I was able to set specific goals for the trip. I had met people already, fostered those relationships and ready to take things to the next level with my business.
I talked a friend into coming out to New York with me so I could justify prolonging the stay and getting some sort of tourist action in. We rented a nice loft in a trendy district of Williamsburg over in Brooklyn. We were one train stop out of Manhattan and there were plenty of bars, restaurants and boutiques right in the area.
We flew red eye from SLC to JFK on Jet Blue airlines. Our flight was over 2 hours late (delayed from L.A.) and instead of getting into town at 5am, we got in at 7am. I was mostly thankful for that!
We quickly made our way across town into Brooklyn where we were staying. We grabbed some breakfast at a top notch little dinner (mm.. waffles!) and had coffee before meeting with our rental manager across the street.
The loft wasn’t quite what we expected, but it was still quite awesome and quite the savings over hotels in downtown Manhattan. The AC was spectacular and that’s what really mattered most.
